Maison Joseph Drouhin
The CSR and environment commitment by Maison Joseph Drouhin is based on its core values that guide and illuminate each of its actions: Passion, Harmony,Audacity, Regenerative, Excellence (PHARE, lighthouse in French). Having long been committed to environmentally respectful practices, it was one of the first Burgundy houses to adopt organic and biodynamic viticulture practices in the late 1980s. It has introduced innovative initiatives such as creating a lightweight bottle in 2008. Inspired by family values passed down through generations, Maison Joseph Drouhin has long been committed to embodying the principles ofCorporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and actively contributing to sustainable development in all its aspects. Frédéric Drouhin, Chairman of the Executive Boardand a member of the fourth generation, expresses this vision by stating: "Today, the employees of Maison Joseph Drouhin and I are proud of our actions that go beyond the CSR approach. It represents not only our core values but also our commitment to a better future for our planet and future generations. Our goal for 2030 is to be a model in our choices for preserving the wine heritage and ensuring its resilience in the face of internal and external climatic and human challenges."
Maison Joseph Drouhin was created in 1880 by Joseph Drouhin. His son Maurice took over the company, and Maurice’s son Robert in turn took over from him. Philippe, Véronique, Laurent and Frédéric, Robert’s children, continue the family tradition today. The Domaine comprises 100 hectares in all of Burgundy, acquired gradually over the years. Two thirds of its vineyards are in Premier and Grand Cru sites, and some are among the most famous in Burgundy, such as Clos des Mouches, Musigny, Amoureuses, Griotte-Chambertin, Corton-Charlemagne, etc… Robert Drouhin was one of the first in Burgundy to introduce “culture raisonnée” (doing away with pesticides and other chemicals) and his son, Phillipe moved to organic and biodynamic viticulture in the mid 80’s, making today Joseph Drouhin one of the largest Burgundian estate entirely organically farmed. Drouhin’s cellars have spread from the historic Cellars of the Dukes of Burgundy and the Kings of France inBeaune (1th-15th centuries) to the Moulin de Vaudon, an 18th-century watermill in Chablis. Maison Joseph Drouhin prides itself on “a rigorous attention to detail, self-imposed discipline, a desire to learn, a rigorous sense of values, passion and daring”, leading to the production of very elegant wines.
